Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Mercury Milan
The 2011 Mercury Milan will be one of the final two vehicles sold by the Ford brand. In 2010, Ford announced it would close down the Mercury nameplate, leaving it with the Ford and Lincoln badges to apply to its new vehicles.
While they're available, the standard and hybrid versions of the Milan should be excellent deals for shoppers looking for a four-door sedan with a pinch of style, good interior space and a high-quality cabin, with the appeal of hybrid gas mileage to boot.
The Milan is essentially identical to the Ford Fusion and Fusion Hybrid models, with a thin layer of distinctive styling applied. Both Milan sedans were revamped in 2010, along with their corporate cousins. There's a waterfall grille on the nose, a dash with wide pieces of metallic trim that distinguish it from the Fusion, and a handsome selection of interior upholstery choices, including a two-tone chocolate effect that's unavailable on any Ford version (or on the also related Lincoln MKZ, for that matter).
Buyers can choose from a range of Milan sedans. Those choices include four- or six-cylinder engines, manual or automatic transmissions, front- or all-wheel drive, and a hybrid edition. Not all combinations are available, though: the V-6 is the only engine offered with all-wheel drive, and the manual transmission only is offered with the four-cylinder.
INTERIOR
Of all the Milan's good qualities, the passenger cabin stands out as worthy of special mention. The overall look is attractive, and the use of soft-touch materials gives it a distinctly classy appearance. Though it's not the largest model in either the Mercury lineup or the family sedan segment, the interior feels roomy and seats four adults comfortably. In back, a relatively large trunk offers 16.5 cubic feet of cargo room, which is made more useful by the 60/40-split-folding rear seatbacks. Unfortunately the fold-flat front passenger seat that allowed owners to carry extra-long items with the trunk lid closed has been dropped.
Though the dash layout seems to have a lot of buttons, everything works pretty intuitively. The ability to control your cell phone and MP3 player hands-free via the Sync system is a definite plus for folks who spend lots of time in their cars. Sync's new Traffic, Directions and Information service -- which is free for the first three years -- just makes it that much more handy.
EXTERIOR
Like its near identical twin, the Ford Fusion, the Milan got a big makeover last year that included a stylish new exterior, an updated passenger cabin and more powerful and fuel-efficient engines to make it one of the most well-rounded entries in the highly competitive midsize sedan category.
Adding to the Milan's appeal for its final model year are a number of incremental improvements, including outside wide-angle spotter mirrors, available rain-sensing windshield wipers, an HD radio option and a so-called Appearance package that bundles 18-inch alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension and a rear spoiler. The available voice-activated Sync system also gets a new Traffic, Directions and Information service that can deliver everything from real-time traffic reports and turn-by-turn driving directions to info on local businesses, news headlines and even daily horoscopes.
ENGINE
to watch out for is its powerful engine specification. The 2011 2011 Mercury Milan has got the power of 3.0-liter dohc 24-valve V6 engine phenomenal in churning out 221 horsepower at 6250 RPM and 205 pound-feet of torque at 4800 RPM. The engine comes with 6-speed automatic transmission system. Thanks to 6-speed automatic transmission system facility, The 2011 Mercury Milan delivers decent fuel economy – 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on highways.
SAFETY
Antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags are standard on all Milan models. In government crash testing, the Milan earned a top five-star rating for its protection of front occupants in head-on collisions. In the side-impact test, the 2011 Mercury Milan earned five stars for front passengers and four stars for those in the rear. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests, the Milan earned a top rating of "Good" in both the frontal-offset and side-impact tests.

2011 Mercury Mariner
Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Mercury Mariner
Like its Milan sedan sibling, the 2011 Mercury Mariner crossover will be one of the final vehicles sold under its brand name. Ford announced in 2010 it would shut down the Mercury brand, leaving it with just Lincoln and Ford nameplates to apply to its wide range of sedans, trucks, and crossovers.
The Mariner had received fairly extensive updates in the 2008 and 2009 model years. For 2008, Ford smoothed over the aging Mariner's looks and fitted a new interior that organized controls a bit more effectively, but cloaked them in too much grainy plastic.
INTERIOR
The Mariner's cabin is a pleasantly functional space, thanks in part to a huge center console with removable bins. Satin-finish metallic accents and available leather upholstery add a premium sheen. The Mariner shows its age, however, in terms of comfort and space. Up front, the seating position feels upright and trucklike and there's no telescoping steering wheel, so you have the feeling that you're hovering above the controls.
The front seats are shaped well enough, but the rear seat is as flat as a pirate's plank and offers neither a recline function nor fore/aft adjustability. What's more, folding the seatback down for maximum cargo capacity is a royal pain, requiring the headrests to be removed and the bottom cushions to be tumbled forward, a consequence of offering a flat load floor. Cargo volume stands at a useful 29 cubic feet with the rear seat in place and 66 cubic feet when that seat is folded down not bad given the Mariner's relatively compact footprint.
EXTERIOR
It comes in four different trim levels such as base I4, Premier I4, Base V6, and last but still important, Premier V6. The base model is well – equipped with various features like alloy 6 – inch wheels, privacy glass, air conditioning, fog lights, full power accessories, and audio controls steering- mounted wheel.
On the other hand, the Premier model has all basic to advanced amenities such as parking rear sensors, front heated seats, interior ambient lighting, power – driver seat, leather upholstery, Sync and rearview auto – dimming mirror and six – speaker stereo system etc.
ENGINE
In 2011, the Mariner adopted more significant powertrain updates. A new base engine was added and the V-6 option gained more power. For 2011, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 171 horsepower, and the output of the 3.0-liter V-6 reaches 240 hp. Both versions are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.
A third powertrain is offered in the Mariner Hybrid, which is virtually identical to the award-winning Ford Escape Hybrid. The technology in this version of the Mariner crossover couples a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a full hybrid system combining an electric motor system. The result: gas mileage that's EPA-rated at 34 mpg city and 31 highway, with acceleration similar to that in the stock four-cylinder.
SAFETY
Antilock brakes (albeit with rear drums), traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags with a rollover sensor are all standard equipment on the 2011 Mercury Mariner.
The Mariner earned a perfect five stars from the government in both front and side crash tests. In testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Mariner scored the highest rating of "Good" in the frontal-offset and side tests. Unfortunately, the Mariner's braking performance is poor. From 60 mph, the Ford Escape we tested (mechanically identical to the Mariner) required 138 feet to come to a halt.

2011 Mercury Grand Marquis
Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis
Some would argue that it is inappropriate to castigate the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis, likening the stabbing statements to gossiping behind someone’s back. Foo-fa-rah! Mercury is dead now, courtesy of Ford, so we have no compunction lambasting and lampooning the Grand Marquis all we want.
If cars were awarded Ig Nobel prizes, the Grand Marquis would come out weighed down with blingin’ hardware. It shares an engine with its 1992 ancestor. That’s like cursing the Pope. Eight cylinders are usually every gearhead’s dream, but the Grand Marquis turns them into a horrific nightmare. The powerplant is weak and inefficient, with little energy off the line and even less thereafter. It’s partnered with an antiquated four-speed automatic transmission and chugs fuel worse than the teenagers chug soda. The Grand Marquis is part of an elite group; it is one of the few vehicles sold today that pack eight cylinders and still can’t break the mid-eights in the 0-60 mph dash.
Handling is similarly lifeless. No responsiveness, communication, rigidity or energy. This 4,117-lb vehicle has the weight of an elephant with the agility of a sloth. It has one of the cushiest suspensions available, which is fabulous on highways, but makes your head endlessly bobble on the corners. Ironically, the Grand Marquis is rear-wheel drive, a setup normally reserved for athletic performers. Nice joke, Mercury.
INTERIOR
2011 Mercury Grand Marquis lets you experience an effortless driving experience, enjoy a sleeker new look, and relax in a more luxurious cabin. This year, the car comes in four distinct models – the Grand Marquis GS Convenience, the Grand Marquis LS Premium, Grand Marquis LSE, and Grand Marquis LS Ultimate. Whichever one of these models suits your needs, you’ll find all of The 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis performance review specs you could ever possibly want right here. Exhibiting a further refined appearance, The 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis features a new sleek grille, along with a restyled front end, new wraparound headlamps and integrated cornering lamps. New styling also shows itself in the Grand Marquis’ taillamps and wheels. And to make things better, the new trunk offers 20.6 cubic feet of storage space. On the inside, The 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis features include the electronic automatic temperature control system, stylish lounge seating, power-adjustable foot pedals, a 6-disc, trunk-mounted, radio controlled CD changer, and an overhead console with controls that include a Digital compass, map lights, sunglass storage, valet clip and the HomeLink Universal Transceiver, a programmable remote control device to activate the garage door opener plus two additional home-based devices.
The Grand Marquis' general interior design hasn't really been changed since...goodness, we can't even remember. The original George Bush may have been president. Major controls reside in the center of the dash and can be difficult to reach, though they're incredibly easy to decipher and a testament to simpler technological times. Of course, that also means you go without the sort of modern conveniences Ford has become known for, like navigation, Sirius Travel Link and Sync, which you can use to control your iPod and cell phone using voice controls. We have a sneaking suspicion, though, that most Grand Marquis buyers won't care.
The cabin is quite wide, but backseat legroom is no more impressive than cars that are smaller on the outside. Nevertheless, the Grand Marquis is one of the few remaining cars capable of seating three people in the front seat, which means you can stuff six people inside. Their luggage will be able to come along as well, because the trunk measures 20.6 cubic feet, making it the largest of any car (though the Ford Taurus' trunk is but 0.4 cubic feet smaller).
EXTERIOR
Every Grand Marquis comes with a powerful 4.6 liter V-8 engine with a single overhead cam and an improved output of 220 hp. The Grand Marquis has been engineered to meet federal Low Emission Vehicle standards (LEV). A new standard feature for 2011, this system enhances protection via front-impact and driver-seat position sensors designed to provide a modulated and appropriate rate of front airbag deployment. Grand Marquis is the only car in its class with a double five-star front crash test rating five years in a row ..Brake and accelerator pedals travel up to 3 inches forward or backward to optimize the driver’s position relative to the steering wheel.
ENGINE
The rear-wheel-drive 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 good for only 224 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic is standard. Going from zero to 60 mph requires about 8.5 seconds, which is on par with many four-cylinder-powered sedans. Fuel economy is 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 combined. That's a big improvement over 1978, but pretty disappointing today given this car's meager power.
SAFETY
2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is designed to combine useful technology with plush luxury. The driver benefits from having controls within ready reach, making it easy to monitor vehicle gauges. Smooth, responsive power is standard on every Mercury Grand Marquis, thanks to the 4.6-liter SOHC 16-valve V8 engine. With confident authority, it offers 224 horsepower and 272 pounds per foot of torque. For enhanced performance and a smoother, more controlled ride, the standard handling package offers a uniquely tuned front suspension, rear air suspension with unique springs, 16-inch, 9-spoke aluminum wheels and more. in addition, the car’s Personal Safety System includes a crash severity sensor, a driver’s seat position sensor, and front outboard safety belt usage sensors, as well as front outboard safety-belt pretensioners and front outboard energy-management safety belt retractors. If that’s not enough, the Grand Marquis for sale comes standard with an Anti Lock Braking System, which prevents wheel lockup and enables the driver to maintain steering control even when braking on less than ideal surfaces. The 2011 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is the car for the power-hungry master of commerce. The new model lets you experience an effortless driving experience, enjoy a sleeker new look, and relax in a more luxurious cabin. This year, the Grand Marquis comes in four distinct models – the Grand Marquis GS Convenience , the Grand Marquis LS Premium, Mercury Grand Marquis LSE, and Grand Marquis LS Ultimate. The new Grand Marquis also boasts a redesigned independent front suspension with power, engine speed-sensitive, variable-assist rack-and-pinion steering that delivers an improved ride, more precise handling and a smoother journey than ever before.

2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
Although it has never really found a loyal following in North America, Mercedes-Benz’s R-Class serves as the brand’s multi-passenger flagship. With room for the whole family, this executive express crossover-wagon-minivan has long made a great vehicle in which to be hauled around in luxury.
With its doors wide open, Mercedes-Benz brought us within miles of the land of chauffeur-driven vehicles, New York, to sample the revised 2011 edition of its R-Class. Fine, we were in Hoboken, New Jersey, just up the block from the old Erie Lackawanna Railroad Terminal, where we swear we saw the ghost of Frank Sinatra.
But did Frank sing his praises about Mercedes’ R-Class?
Never a vehicle to walk out the local Mercedes-Benz dealer’s showroom in big numbers, it is still an intriguing piece of kit and one we think Sinatra would have liked.
INTERIOR
The space provided behind the front seats is so generous that up to three child safety seats can be installed at the same time. If only four seats are required, the centre backrest can be folded down to serve as an armrest. Alternatively, the six-seater version features a console as standard in place of the centre seat. This also enables the Mercedes R-Class to shine with four luxurious individual seats.
The high-class interior - which seems even more spacious when fitted with the optional panoramic glass sunroof - makes use of new materials and colour combinations to enhance the high-class appeal and quality of this luxury tourer. At the same time they underline the sense of wellbeing which is so typical of a Mercedes-Benz interior. Available interior appointments include the upholstery combination of "Aspen" fabric and breathable, soft-touch ARTICO man-made leather.
Two-tone interior appointments are a new addition to the range: this is where the base colour almond beige can be combined with the contrasting shade mocha brown. Alternatively, the base colour alpaca grey combined with contrasting dark basalt grey is also available. Both colour combinations are used on the dashboard, steering wheel, centre console, seats, door linings and floor coverings. When choosing ARTICO or leather appointments at the same time - in this case the seats feature a new transverse and linear piping design - the piping is finished in a contrasting colour. As alternatives to the aluminium trim with a dark longitudinal grain or the chrome trim in silver shadow, it is also possible to order luxurious wood trims in high-gloss brown eucalyptus, high-gloss brown burred walnut or high-gloss anthracite poplar.
The telematics of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class impress with intuitive and user-friendly operation, high performance and great versatility. The luxury tourer is fitted as standard with the Audio 20 CD system with CD changer. This includes a 12.7 cm (5-inch) colour display, a twin tuner for better radio reception, speed-sensitive volume control, eight loudspeakers and a keypad for entering telephone numbers and radio frequencies. A hands-free system with Bluetooth interface and an Aux-in connection for mobile audio devices such as an iPod are also integrated. On request, a Media Interface (UCI) is also available to connect an external music memory to the onboard electronics and the control system, so that music tracks are shown in the instrument cluster and the colour display in the centre console, and can be conveniently accessed using the keys in the multifunction steering wheel. The battery of the audio device is charged at the same time.
Passengers can also enjoy full, concert-hall surround-sound with the optional, latest-generation Harman Kardon Logic7 sound system. With a high output, a digital signal processor (DSP) and Dolby Digital 5.1, this ensures an outstandingly clear listening experience. As an optional extra, there is also a rear seat entertainment system with two large 20.3 cm (8‑inch) screens, a DVD player and two wireless headsets for greater freedom of movement, plus a remote control unit.
EXTERIOR
Expressive: the new front section is full of character
At the front end of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class, the bonnet, wings, radiator grille, headlamps and bumper have been completely redesigned. On request, in conjunction with bi-xenon headlamps, a chrome insert enhances the integrated LED daytime driving lights. The character of the Mercedes R-Class can also be underlined by an optional, strikingly contoured, chrome-look underguard.
The new bonnet has more marked contours, and is more arrow-shaped at the front edge. The wider, higher radiator grille is more steeply angled, while the bumper cladding is more striking, with clear-cut lines. The side recesses in the bumper, where the fog lamps and daytime driving lights are located, are spaced well apart and give the front section an impression of width. The lines of the side skirts are harmoniously continued forward in the updated wings and grille. The new, dynamic "face" of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class is particularly impressive. The newly designed headlamps blend perfectly into the front end, emphasising the horizontal lines. The "eyelids" continue the beltline along the flanks, and are arranged above the chromed headlamp tubes to produce an assertive, concentrated gaze.
Perfect proportions
Dynamism is also the order of the day where the side aspect is concerned. With the coupé-like lines of the window area, the luxury tourer distinguishes itself attractively from conventional MPVs. Eye-catching details of the clearly contoured flanks include the larger exterior mirror housings, which are set well away from the doors and are held by slim stems. The strikingly designed mirror housings in the vehicle colour have integrated indicator repeaters in the form of a stylised arrow. The new wheel designs are equally eye-catching: the range includes light-alloy wheels in 5-spoke, 5-twin-spoke or 10-spoke designs in sizes from 43.2 to 53.3 centimetres (17 to 21 inches).
Perfect finish: the rear section of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class
The rear section harmoniously continues the design idiom of the front, with a new bumper cladding, modified tail lights, a diffuser and integrated tailpipe trim emphasising the width with more horizontal structures, as at the front. The bumper also picks up the line of the side skirts, giving the effect of a continuous line running around the entire bodywork. Tail lights with LED and fibre optic technology, new exterior contours and horizontally arranged lighting functions lend the finishing touches to the rear section.
ENGINE
For North America, the R-class remains a two-model lineup. The 2011 R350 continues to utilize Mercedes-Benz's 268-hp, 3.5-liter V-6. Diesel fans will likely want to spring for the R350 Bluetec, which uses the same 215-hp, 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 as the ML350 Bluetec and GL350 Bluetec. Both the gasoline and diesel engines are mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, which channels power to all four wheels via Mercedes' 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
Both R350 engines share the seven-speed automatic transmission. Do-it-yourselfers can row the tranny with plastic steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The R 350 rides on a suspension comprised of upper and lower control arms, coil springs, shocks and stabilizer bar in front and a load-leveling air suspension out back.
We found the hydraulic-assisted, rack and pinion steering to give very good road feel, especially given the vehicle’s bulk. With a fully loaded curb weight of 5,280 pounds, the BlueTEC achieves 0-60 mph in 8.6 seconds. Shave off 231 pounds for the gas-powered version, and you’ll see a 0.6 sec improvement.
According to M-B, the 4Matic permanent all wheel drive is where perfect traction lives for all conditions. After pushing the R-Class through the winding roads of Westchester County, we were impressed at how, despite its size, the R never displayed any untoward behavior.
SAFETY
The comprehensive Mercedes approach to integral safety also applies in the new R-Class. This trailblazing safety philosophy goes well beyond compliance with standardised crash test regulations. It concerns itself with all aspects of driving - everything that is important for the safety of the vehicle occupants and other road users. The Mercedes safety concept divides these aspects into four phases:
*Safe driving: avoiding danger, warning and assisting in good time
*In the event of danger: acting in an anticipatory manner, e.g. with PRE-SAFE
*In an accident: provide protection as needed
*After an accident: avoid even worse consequences and make rapid assistance possible

2011 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
Mercedes-Benz’s now-legendary M-Class SUV has been revised for again the latest generation. While the refresh doesn't completely alter the look of the vehicle, it does include a redesigned bumper, re-contoured headlamps and a larger radiator, as well as minor changes to content lists.
Since the Tuscaloosa, Alabama-built M-Class’ introduction in late 1997 for the 1998 model year, families across the globe have flocked to the three-row sports-utility vehicle. The latest generation of the M brought a new top-end V8 model, the ML550, and considerably more aggressive style.
The visual changes with the latest update include restyled front and rear fascias, grille, headlights and smoked taillights. The interior receives upgraded materials along with a two-tone color scheme and new four-spoke steering wheel with integrated shift paddles. New standard and optional equipment has also been added.
INTERIOR
The 2011 Mercedes M-Class features one of the finest cabins in its class, with a pleasing design and top-notch materials. Its electronics interface can be a bit frustrating, however. While the menu structure and software are the same, the M-Class doesn't feature the multifunction control knob that more recently introduced Mercedes models do.
Passenger room is impressive, offering more rear legroom than most of its competitors. There's no third row offered, though. With the rear seats in place, there is a total of 29 cubic feet of luggage space. When the seats are folded flat, this expands to 72 cubes -- an average figure for this class of vehicle.
Newly optional are: a 12-speaker, 610W Harman Kardon Logic7 sound system and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 8-inch screens, a DVD player, two wireless headphones, and two remote controls. MB’s Linguatronic voice-operated control system is another high-tech option.
The M-Class accommodates up to five occupants. The powered front seats include a driver-side four-way power lumbar adjustment. A 60/40-split rear seat creates a level load surface when folded.
*Standard "mbrace" telematics system
*Optional leather-seating package
*Optional front and rear heated seats
*Optional heated steering wheel
*Optional Harman Kardon audio
*Optional backseat entertainment system with two screens
EXTERIOR
Stand-alone options include 20-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot assist, a trailer hitch, running boards, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, heated rear seats and a rear-seat entertainment system.
The ML63 AMG adds to the ML550 an air suspension and adaptive damping system, 20-inch AMG wheels, high-performance tires, upgraded brakes, AMG styling elements, the Premium 2 package, the Lighting package, front and rear parking sensors, extended leather trim, heated and ventilated sport seats and a sport steering wheel with shift paddles.
Almost all the exterior changes in the most recent redesign made the M-Class look lower and broader. The grille was lower and the fog lights were farther apart, for example. The stainless-steel skid plates — front and rear — pulled the eye downward. One exception was the side mirrors, whose signal lights grew and spread, threatening to overtake the entire mirror enclosure.
*Standard roof rails, optional crossbars
*Dual exhaust outlets
*Standard 19-inch wheels; 20- and 21-inch rims optional
*Optional front and rear parking sensors
ENGINE
The ML350 is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (4Matic) and is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard. Mercedes estimates it will go from zero to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds. Fuel economy is estimated to be 16 mpg city/21 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive and 15/20/17 in 4Matic guise.
The ML350 Bluetec has a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 that utilizes 50-state-legal clean-diesel technology. It produces 210 hp and a prodigious 400 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed automatic and 4Matic are standard. In Edmunds performance testing, we recorded a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds. Its estimated fuel economy is 18/25/21.
The ML450 Hybrid features a 3.5-liter V6, a pair of electric motors and an advanced transmission that has both fixed and continuously variable ratios. The transmission shares its general design with GM's two-mode hybrid systems, though in this case there are eight forward speeds versus GM's four. Total combined output is rated at 335 hp and 381 lb-ft of torque. The estimated 0-60 time is 7.8 seconds and estimated fuel economy is 20/24/22 mpg.
The ML550 gets AWD and a seven-speed automatic standard. Its 5.5-liter V8 produces 382 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, which is enough for an estimated 0-60 time of 5.6 seconds. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy is 13/18/15.
The ML63 AMG packs a 6.2-liter V8 good for 503 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. It's connected to all four wheels via an AMG-tuned seven-speed automatic with manual override shift paddles. In Edmunds performance testing, its 0-60 time was a staggering 4.7 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is, not surprisingly, the lowest of the bunch at 11/15/12 mpg.
SAFETY
Standard safety features include:
Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes
Electronic stability system
Side-impact airbag
Side curtain airbags
Active front head restraints
Pre-Safe, which can cinch the front seat belts and close the windows in case of a crash
ML450 Hybrid
The technology in the new ML450 Hybrid allows the SUV to move on electric power alone at low speeds, one reason it gets 21/24 mpg city/highway.
The ML450 Hybrid features a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 275 hp and is supplemented by two electric motors that are part of the eight-speed, continuously variable automatic transmission. Total output is 335 hp. One electric motor is designed for acceleration from a standing stop while the other one is meant for on-the-move acceleration. When more power is needed, the gas engine starts automatically.
This M-Class has a number of familiar hybrid characteristics. The engine sometimes turns off when the car comes to a stop and starts again when the vehicle begins to move. The ML450 Hybrid also features regenerative braking, capturing energy that would otherwise be lost as heat and instead using it to replenish the hybrid system's high-voltage battery pack.
The ML450 Hybrid is distinguished from its siblings by some exterior styling cues, including its liftgate badge, a different hood and special 19-inch wheels. Inside, occupants can monitor the hybrid system's operation and fuel economy with the optional Comand screen on the dash.

2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
since the premiere of the brand new 2010 model year GLK Class, back in 2008, Mercedes-Benz is finally replacing it with the new 2011 model year in the July 2010. Sounds confusing? Here is clarification: Research, development and testing of the compact SUV were finished a lot earlier than expected by Daimler AG and they pushed GLK for sale in early 2008, but model year remained to be 2010 to keep their books intact, so 2010 model year GLK ended up with a long run. Anyone who is looking to purchase a pre-owned GLK needs to check the original Date of Sale, because even if the VIN number tells you that this is the 2010 model year, you could easily end up buying a 2 year old vehicle!
Both: GLK350 (Rear-Wheel-Drive) and GLK350 4MATIC (All-Wheel-Drive) continue to boast 268 Horsepower and 258 lb-ft of Torque. 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class enhancements consist of the new and more users friendly Headlight Control Switch and Premium Leather Steering Wheel. 2011 GLK has also improvements in the Safety technology. New Knee Airbag, Driver/Passenger Pelvic Airbags and new Rear View Camera are added to the new model year - to stay in the mainstream of other Mercedes models safety standards. The final enhancement to the new GLK is the available new paint: Pearl Beige Metallic. This paint will be limited in production and may have extra charge, but if you like it - it may worth it!
INTERIOR
There isn't a hint of French curve to be found anywhere inside the GLK, but the geometric lines are softened by an abundance of amenities and framed within an elegant simplicity that echoes the exterior's no-nonsense character. The craftsmanship and materials are of an obviously high standard, and even Mercedes' vinyl upholstery could be mistaken for real leather. Headroom is ample all around but rear legroom is tight, and climbing in and out through the small rear door openings can be difficult.
A few systems are overly complicated to operate and the climate controls are mounted a little low, but the overall combination of physical dash buttons, steering-wheel controls and the optional multifunction COMAND knob make the GLK no less friendly than other cars with extravagant electronics. Maximum cargo capacity is 54.7 cubic feet, which is less than most luxury competitors, but the rear seats are easy to fold flat when the need arises for more luggage room.
The Premium 1 package adds a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming mirrors, driver seat memory settings, driver seat power lumbar support, a 115-volt household outlet and satellite radio. The Multimedia package adds a navigation system, a rearview camera, the electronics interface, voice controls, digital music storage, an iPod/USB audio interface and a six-CD changer.
The GLK350's cabin takes elements from Mercedes-Benz's entry-level C-Class sedan, as it features a similar steering wheel, center control panel and gauge styling. Models equipped with Mercedes' optional Comand system have a knob controller on the center console that's used to navigate menus on the 7.5-inch dash screen. Among knob-based control systems, Comand's interface is one of the more intuitive ones available. The system's screen can show things like radio station information and map data from the navigation system.
*Standard simulated leather upholstery
*Optional real leather
*Front bucket seats and three-seat rear bench
*Optional "mbrace" telematics system
*Real wood and aluminum trim
*Standard dual-zone automatic air conditioning
EXTERIOR
The Appearance package adds 20-inch wheels and aluminum roof rails. The AMG Sport package offers the roof rails, 20-inch wheels, AMG bumpers and LED daytime running lights. Other options include a styling package, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, keyless ignition/entry, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system, heated front seats and a rear seat entertainment system with dual front-headrest-mounted displays.
With its angular exterior styling, the GLK350 bears a strong resemblance to its big brother, the GL-Class. The GLK350's large front grille is divided by two horizontal bars, and in the middle is a large Mercedes three-point star. Upright roof pillars make for tall side windows, and the back of the crossover is finished with a liftgate spoiler and twin exhaust outlets.
*Standard 19-inch alloy wheels
*Optional 20-inch rims
*Optional panoramic moonroof and power liftgate
*Optional adaptive bi-xenon headlights, cornering lights and LED taillights
ENGINE
The 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 with an output of 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission with Comfort, Sport and Manual settings is standard. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive (known as 4Matic) is optional. In Edmunds performance testing, a GLK350 4Matic accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds, an average time for this segment. Estimated fuel economy is 16 mpg city/21 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined with 4Matic. The rear-wheel-drive GLK bumps the highway number up to 23 mpg.

*Seven-speed automatic transmission
*Rear- or all-wheel drive
*3,500-pound maximum towing capacity
SAFETY
The GLK comes standard with stability control, antilock disc brakes with brake assist, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and, new for 2011, a front knee airbag and driver/passenger pelvic airbags. Parking sensors and Mercedes' mbrace emergency telematics are optional.
In Edmunds brake testing, a GLK 4Matic came to a stop from 60 mph in 119 feet -- a good number for this type of vehicle.
Driving Impressions
Given the compromises of ride height and weight commensurate with its class of vehicle, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK is beautifully balanced and evokes comparison to the C-Class sedan, its closest showroom relative. If the GLK is not quite as sporty as the X3 or Q5, its incredibly solid structure, compliant ride quality and maneuverability through tight urban streets are sure to appeal to the GLK's likely buyer.
With its 268-hp V6, the GLK's acceleration isn't breathtaking, but the dual exhausts give off a pleasant Germanic growl during aggressive driving. On the highway, the V6 is remarkably quiet, emitting an almost imperceptible purr. The seven-speed transmission is remarkably smooth even in Sport mode, but it can be a bit slow to downshift at times.

EXTERIOR
A restyled bumper highlights the exterior changes to the 2011 GL-Class, which also boasts trapezoidal tailpipes, chrome skid plates and either dual fog lights or LED daytime lights. The GL350 Bluetec sits on 20-inch wheels and offers a standard adaptive air suspension, sunroof, automatic headlights, roof rails, and automatic wipers. The GL450 sits on standard 19-inch wheels, while the GL550 features 21-inch wheels.
The exclusive front end of the "Grand Edition" is unmistakeable: dark-tinted headlamps, a radiator grille with black, high-gloss louvres and a redesigned front bumper with integrated LED daytime running lamps define the special model. Light-alloy wheels in himalayas grey metallic - with a high-sheen finish also available as an option - add further exclusivity. There are other visual highlights too, such as metallic paint finishes, heat-insulating and infrared-reflecting laminated glass all round, aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs, and separated exhaust tailpipe trim.

ENGINE
The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class "Grand Edition" models are equipped with PARKTRONIC and any one of the available engines. The V6 diesel engine in the GL 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC utilises highly efficient SCR exhaust gas technology, outputs 155 kW (211 hp) and delivers its maximum torque of 540 Newton metres at 1600 rpm. On average this engine consumes 9.0 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres. In the GL 350 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY, the V6 engine outputs 195 kW (265 hp) and generates torque of 620 Newton metres. It consumes 8.9 litres per 100 kilometres.
Superior power delivery and maximum smoothness are the particular benefits of the two petrol V8 models. These models also comply with the EU5 emissions standard. The 5.5-litre V8 engine in the GL 500 outputs 285 kW (388 hp) and delivers 530 Newton metres of torque. At 6.5 seconds, its acceleration time from a standstill to 100 km/h is almost worthy of a sports car. On the GL450, the V8 petrol engine has a displacement of 4.6 litres, outputs 250 kW (340 hp) and generates maximum torque of 460 Newton metres. It takes 7.2 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.
SAFETY
Safety features in the 2011 GL-Class include a Pre-Safe collision-mitigation system, which tightens seatbelts and closes windows prior to impact as well as a Post-Safe system, which unlocks the doors and shuts down the engine and fuel system after an accident. Other standard safety technologies include side curtain airbags for all three rows, side-impact airbags for first and second rows, antilock brakes, and an electronic stability system. New head restraints for the second- and third-row help reduce whiplash potential, while a new blind-spot detection system is standard across the line.
Significant enhancements to safety, along with clean diesel technology, V-8 power and plenty of space for the kids or equipment make the 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV an attractive choice, inside and out.
